Bamboo Technology Project

Bamboo Technology Project

The Bamboo Technology Project investigated the creation of applications to support the research and teaching of scholars in the Humanities. Requirements were identified during an 18 month planning process involving many institutions around the world.

While the project was ultimately unsuccessful in creating applications, it led to the DiRT repository of digital tools, an ongoing community effort to catalogue and share information about applications. DiRT is also leading in the deployment of the TaDiRAH ontology for digital methods in the arts and humanities.

The Oxford e-Research Centre, in conjunction with the Humanities Division worked within the Work Spaces stream, integrating image viewing and annotation tools from the Virtual Research Environment for the Study of Documents and Manuscripts project (VRE-SDM) which was funded by the JISC. The project used OpenSocial technology, involving interoperable components which allow for the integration of social networking and reference tools to be exposed across multiple workspaces.
