Maria Susana Avila Garcia is the project manager for the e-Research South consortium and the Neurohub project. Susana is a senior research associate at the Oxford e-Research Centre. She has worked in cancer imaging research related projects including "Lowering the Barriers to Cancer Imaging" which is part of the project "Cancer and Cardiac Imaging" funded by the Technical Computing Initiative of Microsoft Corporation. She was also the project manager of the JISC funded project "A virtual research environment framework for cancer imaging".

She holds a Diploma in Computer Science from the Tecnologico de Celaya in Mexico. She worked as a software engineer at University of Guanajuato in 1997 and in 1999 she won a scholarship awarded by the National Council on Science and Technology (CONACyT) to the Faculty of Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering (FIMEE) in Mexico where she was awarded an MSc in Electrical Engineering. In 2002, she won a scholarship awarded by  National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT), Mexico to University of Southampton and worked on the project "Automatic 3D vocal tract shape extraction from Magnetic Resonance Image sequences” in the Information: Signals, Images, Systems (ISIS) Research Group.  She joined the “British Official Publications Collaborative Reader Information Service” (BOPCRIS) project as part time developer in 2006 and in 2007 she joined the Oxford e-Research Centre.

Her research interests lie in multidisciplinary projects, cancer imaging research and multi-touch technologies.
