Dr Antonio Fernandez-Guerra

Visiting Academic

Antonio obtained his PhD at the University of Barcelona studying the ecology and evolution of ammonia oxidizers. He is currently a postdoctoral research associate at the Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology and Jacobs University in Bremen. His scientific background combines expertise in ecology, molecular evolution, metagenomics, computational biology and complex systems. His research activities are in the area of metagenomics, developing new graph-based approaches to generate hypotheses on the hypothetical proteins (genomic unknowns) and for potential open reading frames lacking similarity to any of the actual biological databases (environmental unknowns). During the last few years, he has been involved with the Ocean Sampling Day (OSD), being a coordinator with a focus on OSD data analysis
