Julie has worked for the last 20 years in communications and project management. She has a MA in Issues in Modern Culture from UCL and a professional marketing qualification from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Originally from Dorset, she moved to London after University to work for a social housing provider. In 2001 she relocated to Oxford to work as Publications and Marketing Manager for the international environmental organisation Earthwatch Institute, where she enjoyed working with researchers to communicate the findings and impact of over 140 research projects.
Julie’s interest in the environment led her to study climate change with the Open University and then to work as a Freelance Ecohomes Assessor with the Building Research Establishment, assessing new-build developments for energy use, transport, water use and materials etc. This led to a role as Monitoring Officer for Innovate UK (then the Technology Strategy Board) for the next six years. Julie has also undertaken freelance writing and editing for various organisations including an international development charity and UCISA (Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association).
As Communications Officer for the e-Research Centre, Julie is responsible for managing all internal and external communications including the website, social media and print publications.
