Oxford joins Lenovo collaboration

Speaking at the Supercomputing 2015 conference in Austin, Texas this November, Dr Andrew Richards (Associate Director at the e-Research Centre and head of the University's Advanced Research Computing) announced a new collaboration between the University of Oxford (ARC/Oxford e-Research Centre) and Lenovo which results in the University of Oxford becoming a member of the prestigious Lenovo Innovation Centre.

As Lenovo’s latest Innovation Center collaboration partner, collaborative work at Oxford will focus on improving HPC energy efficiency within large data volume environments and a joint evaluation project developing a stack of open-source software designed to reduce HPC deployment costs and help smaller organizations realize the potential of HPC technology.

Further planned projects will investigate energy efficient computing solutions for processing time domain radio astronomy data gathered by the forthcoming Square Kilometre Array radio telescope.
