OSC Training Courses Jan/Feb 2012

OSC courses are hands-on, free of charge and open to all current members of the University. We would especially welcome new appointees to the University and also non-traditional users of high performance computing from areas such as social sciences, arts & humanities as we are very much user driven in the service we provide.

1. An introduction to supercomputing at Oxford Training Day, 26th January 2012, 10:00-16:00

This course will provide an overview of parallel supercomputing and how to use the facilities offered by OSC. By the end of the session you will have developed a better understanding of how you might use high performance computing in your research and had the chance to ask questions of the OSC staff.  In this single session we will cover:

 - An introduction to Parallel Computing & HPC

- Using OSC and the Oxford systems (access, charging etc)

- Aspects of Linux for HPC

- Job submission with PBS, Torque & GOLD

2. Scientific Computing: Introduction to MPI and OPENMP

Part 1 2nd Feb 2012 09:00-12:00
Part 2 9th Feb 2012  09:00-12:00

This course will cover the basics of parallel programming in MPI in Part 1, moving onto OpenMP in Part 2. It will also introduce more general concepts such as types of parallel hardware, compilation of parallel code and the use of scientific libraries, code speedup and code scaling. Ideal if you want to develop your own parallel applications using the OSC systems.
