Bringing poets and computer scientists together

Bringing poets and computer scientists together

A joint project between the Oxford e-Research Centre and the University of Utah has been featured in the latest issue of JISC's Inform magazine.

The Poem Vieweris a web-based tool that enables users to explore and analyse poetry through a visual representation of different elements of a text – the words of the poem, the phonetic sounds and the location of the sound.

The Poem Viewer is part of the JISC Imagery Lens for Visualizing Corpora project and attempts to address the challenging research question of whether or not advanced visualization techniques can provide an effective interface that enables scholars (e.g., literary and linguistic researchers) to use their expert knowledge dynamically, while utilizing the computational and memorizing capability of computers.
