e-Research Centre Director appointed as University CIO
Professor Anne Trefethen, Director of the Oxford e-Research Centre, has been appointed to the new post of Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the University.
In addition to her duties as CIO, Anne will continue to oversee the e-Research Centre until a new Director has been appointed.
Professor Alex Halliday, Head of the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division said "I am delighted to congratulate Anne on her new position. Over the past seven years she has established very strong foundations for the e-Research Centre and we will be working together to find someone who can take over her role and continue to build on that success."
The appointment of a CIO, which was the result of an internal competition, has been made in conjunction with the forthcoming bringing together of the three central ICT units: Business Services and Projects (BSP), the ICT Support Team (ICTST), and Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS).
Anne will be taking forward the work that she has been overseeing as ICT Central Coordination Programme lead since July 2011, through to completion of the transition to the new department. In her new role, she will have responsibility for the management and future development of the new integrated central ICT department, and will also take forward the development of policy and strategy for ICT across Oxford.
Before coming to Oxford in 2005, Anne was a Director of the UK e-Science Core Programme and, before this, she worked at NAG (Numerical Algorithms Group) in both management and technical roles. She has spent ten years in the US at Thinking Machines Corp and at the Theory Centre, Cornell University, in leadership roles.
