The Oxford e-Research Centre is delighted to welcome David Abramson, Director of the University of Queensland's Research Computing Centre (RCC), who is spending two weeks with the Centre as a visiting professor.
Professor Abramson works with research groups across the University of Queensland to help them make use of advanced technology including High Performance Computers, data management and the Cloud.
Whilst in Oxford, as well as exchanging information and giving seminars, he will explore opportunities for sharing and collaboration between RCC and the Centre.
RCC's engagement with the Zooniverse project is a good example of the types of collaboration being explored. He will also work with the Oxford Computational Biology group on applications of RCC's Nimrod software to problems in cardiac simulation.
Professor Abramson gave a seminar at the Centre on Friday, 17 March about UQ’s compute infrastructure for data science, 'Caches all the way down: Infrastructure for Data Science', which he also gave as a keynote speech in Taiwan at the 2017 International Symposium on Grids and Clouds.
