    <description>The most powerful cluster of research intensive universities in the UK are joining forces to form a new consortium to become one of the world's leading hubs for science and engineering research. The Science and Engineering South Consortium has been initiated to pool the collective insights and resources of the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Southampton, Imperial College London and University College London. These world-leading centres for research, the SES-5, will innovate and explore new ideas through collaboration whilst providing efficiencies of scale and shared utilisation of facilities to increase the return on existing and future public investment. </description>

The awards highlighted the best success stories from the FP7 Capacities funding programme in e-Infrastructures, with SIENA winning 2nd Prize in the Competitive Industries section of the competition.</description>

    <description>Oxford e-Research Centre is a core participant in a newly launched global effort to enable free and open sharing of metabolomics data. Coordinated by Dr Christoph Steinbeck of the EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute, COSMOS (Coordination of Standards in Metabolomics) will bring together European data providers to set and promote community standards that will make it easier to disseminate metabolomics data through life science e-infrastructures. This Coordination Action has been financed with €2 million by the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme.  </description>
