"Publishers, Papers and Peer Review" Open Access event

Dr Susanna-Assunta Sansone is taking part in an open access publishing event later this month, entitled 'Publishers, Papers and Peer Review'.

The event, organised by Open Access Oxford and led by Dr Philippa Matthews, comprises short talks, panel discussions and conversation aiming to optimise the collective approach to open access publishing.

The Centre's Associate Director for Life, Natural and BioMedical Sciences, Dr Sansone, will be talking about Scientific Data as part of the day's programme, which aims to help academics maximise the accessibility and impact of their work, to learn about the University's publishing requirements, to facilitate discussions between academia and publishers, and to address some of the challenges of publication.

Scientific Data is a peer-reviewed, open-access Springer Nature journal for descriptions of scientifically valuable research datasets and research that advances the sharing and reuse of scientific data. Scientific Data primarily publishes Data Descriptors, a new type of publication that focuses on helping others reuse data, and crediting those who share.

Other speakers and panel members will include representatives from the Wellcome Trust, F1000, eLife, PLoS, BioRxiv, Publons, Oxford University Press, the University’s IT Services and Bodleian Libraries.

The meeting is a collaborative effort between the Nuffield Department of Medicine, Open Access Oxford, and Oxford University Academic IT. In encouraging and facilitating open discussion between funders, academia and publishers, the organisers hope to improve channels of communication, facilitate new collaborations and strengthen working relationships.

The event will take place on Friday 20th January at the Nuffield Department of Medicine Research Building in Headington. Registration is now open to all members of the University. The meeting will focus predominantly on biomedical sciences, but attendees from other disciplines are also welcome.
