PDRA - on research project Text Corpora Visualization (1 year fixed term)
- Closing Date
- Sunday 19th February '12, 12.00pm
This is a fixed term position associated with a research project on Text Corpora Visualization, which is part of the JISC Digging into Data Programme (http://www.diggingintodata.org/Home/AwardRecipients2011/tabid/185/Default.aspx). The funding period is between 1 February 2012 and 31 January 2013, and the research will be carried in collaboration with University of Utah, USA. The goal of the object is to develop new visualization techniques for use in exploring large scale linguistic and literary corpora such as the collections of the British National Corpus and various smaller archives of poetry. The team will investigate whether or not advanced visualization techniques can provide an interface that enables humanities researchers to use their domain knowledge dynamically, while using the computational capability of computers. In particular, can data visualization help users make new observations and generate new hypotheses? The aim of this project is to answer the above methodological research question, and to create a set of new visualization tools for future scholarly research.
