The Oxford e-Research Centre (OeRC) works with research units across the whole of the University to enable the use and development of innovative computational and information technology in multidisciplinary collaborations. The Centre is strongly linked to the UK National e-Science programme, and is involved in national as well as international collaborations to ensure its position at the forefront of research infrastructure development. The OeRC hosts the Oxford Supercomputing Centre (OSC).
The post-holder will be immersed in a broader spectrum of interdisciplinary research activities and have access to the collective technical expertise in OeRC, for example, in GPU programming, parallel and distributed computing, data infrastructure, web sciences, and the relevant research in social and cognitive sciences. The post-holder will also have opportunities to work closely with a number of visualization researchers working in areas of video visualization, volume visualization, glyph-based visualization, text and document visualization, workflow visualization, perception in visualization, and applications in biology, medicine, geography, arts and humanities, engineering and so on.
Within the contract period, the post holder will carry out research in the scope of the project, with an overall objective to develop novel solutions for the above-mentioned two challenges. Depending on the research experience and skills, the post holder may focus on an in-depth investigation into the perceptual and cognitive aspects of the problem and solution space, or on a practical software environment that enables users to measure visual uncertainty in visualization, and reconfigure visualization accordingly.
The postholder will be line managed by Professor Min Chen.
