Installing and using your digital certificate

When you have obtained your certificate, you will be able to use it in your web browser to reach certain protected pages. You should first read the documents on Caring for Your e-Science Digital Certificate in order that you are able to back up and restore your certificate.

Your certificate may be useful in your browser when accessing restricted pages; for example, within an e-Research Centre web site or within the NGS web site.

The most likely immediate use you will have for the certificate, however, is with the Globus Toolkit. Note that, in addition to the Globus Toolkit, you will first need OpenSSL installed for you to be able to convert the certificate. The GOSC web site has good instructions to help you to prepare your User Certificate for use by Globus Toolkit. This includes the steps of exporting the certificate from your browser, converting it to PEM format and keeping the certificate secure.
