OSC Research Support

Assisting with research proposals

Research Facilitators are available to help researchers put together reseach proposals across a wide range of funders and advise you about access to OSC systems. We also provide:

  • Technical support for existing applications or the introduction of new software onto the OSC systems
  • Guidance on requesting OSC time on FeC research proposals

Research Support - funding

Following the introduction of FEC (Full Economic Costing), OSC recovers its running costs by charging for usage of its systems. Researchers who use OSC and are writing grant proposals are strongly encouraged to add a directly allocated cost item for this purpose.

There are a wide range of funders that will provide support for using OSC systems alongside your general research costs. We would advise thinking about funding to access OSC services well in advance.

These pages aim to provide specific high performance computing relevant opportunities rather than trying to cover all areas of research support across the University.

OSC Time on Research Proposals

For proposals under FEC (Full Economic Costing) funding requests for OSC time should be made as a 'Directly Allocated' cost.

Further guidance is available here.

Specific Funding Opportunities

HPC specific funding opportunities will be advertised both through this website and through email alerts to OSC registered users.

  • John Fell OUP Research Fund

This is an Oxford specific fund to support pump priming, early career researchers and other activities. More details can be found on their webpage.

  • HPC Software Development

OSC is interested in developing collaborations with researchers from all disciplines with the aim of developing new software applications for High Performance Systems. Future funding opportunities could include annual calls from EPSRC directed at such proposals.

  • Industrial Collaboration

Funding may be accessed for collaborative research & development projects through the Technology Strategy Board competitions.  Please get in contact with us to discuss developing a suitable collaboration.

  • HPC-NA Roadmapping Activity

Many applications from different fields share a common numerical algorithmic base. We aim to capture the elements of this common base, identify the status of those elements and in conjunction with the EPSRC Technology and Applications Roadmapping activity, determine areas in which the UK should invest in algorithm development. We publish updates on this activity alongside invitations to get involved, especially to users of such algorithms.
