About OSC

Oxford Supercomputing Centre (OSC) is a central resource available to any Oxford University researcher who needs high performance computing (HPC).

We have a number of high performance computing (HPC) systems available to use but the centre offers much more than just hardware. OSC users have access to full time support staff specialising  in HPC hardware and software. Support is available throughout  a research project.

 OSC users can access:

  • OSC compute facilities
  • User training
  • Systems Management Team
  • Scientific Computing Advisor
  • Research Facilitators to assist with funding applications

The Scientific Computing Advisor advises on:

  • application installation and usage
  • development, optimization and debugging

A list of applications can be found on our applications page.

Although  we currently specialise in parallel HPC there are also some serial applications on our systems.

OSC systems are particularly suitable for running applications which are parallel (or could be made parallel) and/or CPU intensive and/or use large amounts of memory.

Visit our hardware pages for information on current systems.

Users at the OSC are put into groups called "Projects". If your department or research team already has a project set up you can apply immediately for an user account by visiting our registration page.

If you would like to set up a new project, please also visit the registration page. You will need your University Single Sign On details to hand for both.

To find out more, please mail support@osc.ox.ac.uk.
